Census of Diversity of Abyssal Marine Life (CeDAMar)
The Census of Diversity of Abyssal Marine Life (CeDAMar) project aims to document actual species diversity of the sediments of abyssal plains as a basis for global change research and for a better understanding of historical causes and actual ecological factors regulating biodiversity. The deep abyssal plains are far more diverse than previously thought. Because of the remoteness of the deep ocean floor, little is known about the organisms there, still they may account for a large portion of the as-yet-undiscovered species on earth.
