First FMAP Workshop
Dalhousie University
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
20-23 June 2003
The first FMAP workshop, which initiated the planning for this effort, was held 20-23 June 2002 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The workshop was organized to bring together representatives of HMAP, OBIS and the CoML Field Projects with experts from around the world in computer models to discuss the synthesis and prediction capacity of the data being collected in the CoML projects through ecosystem models and to ensure that CoML projects collect the required data for these models. Discussions focused on five topic areas as they relate to the CoML:
- The state of ecosystem models
- Analysis of high-tech movement data (e.g., from tags and sensors)
- Meta-analytic techniques (quantitative methods for combining evidence across populations) to improve synthesis
- Extinction dynamics
- Predicting the consequences of complex interactions (e.g., climate, pollution and fishing including multi-species interactions)
