Republic of Korea is actively involved in Census of Marine Life activities by carrying out survey projects and database construction. CoML Korea aims to examine biodiversity, abundance, spatio-temporal dynamics of distribution of marine organisms in Korean waters. CoML Korea is hosted by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute.

Dr. Lee currently serves as a principal research scientist of Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute and also as a professor of University of Science and Technology. Dr. Lee graduated Seoul National University in 1985 and earned his Ph.D in Marine Biology from University of California, San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1994. His research interests include molecular evolution, phylogenetics, and population genetics of marine species.
CoML Korea supports a Regional Node (KOBIS, http://kobis.kordi.re.kr/) for the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS). It is hosted by Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute and managed by Youn-Ho Lee.
