A Chinese National Committee was established in 2004. The goal of the committee is to understand the history of Chinese marine biodiversity, to investigate the biodiversity, distribution, abundance of marine species and key environmental factors in Chinese typical sea area, and to predict the pattern of marine biodiversity in the future. CoML China is housed at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Qingdao.
Committee Chair: SUN Song Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Dr. SUN is the Director of the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Qindao. He formerly served as Deputy Director to the Institute. His research interests include zooplankton and image analysis. Dr. SUN is also a member of the CoML International Scientific Steering Committee and is involved in CMarZ, OBIS and the SCOR Technology Panel.

China supports a Regional Node for the Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS). It is hosted by the Institute of Oceanology and managed by Sun Song.
